Howard University’s 3rd annual As Queer As It Is Black Conference is scheduled to take place virtually on Zoom on Friday at 11:30 a.m.
The conference, which is open to the public free of charge, is organized by Howard’s undergraduate LGBTQ student group, the Coalition of Activist Students Celebrating the Acceptance of Diversity and Equality (CASCADE).
It will include five panel sessions with Howard University President Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick scheduled to appear as one of the speakers.
“The conference will serve to educate and mobilize faculty, staff, students, and the broader community towards LGBTQ+ progress across society,” a statement released by conference organizers says.
Other speakers include the university’s gay chair of the Department of Political Science, Dr. Ravi Perry; the deputy director of the D.C.-based LGBTQ organization National Black Justice Coalition, Victoria Kirby York; two representatives of the Black AIDS Institute, Garrick Galbreath and David Wyley Long; and Howard University Student Association Vice President Michael Franklin, who is a lead conference organizer.

- Rising from the Ashes: Surviving COVID-19-sponsored by the Black AIDS Institute
- Closing Remarks: Keeping the Faith for a Black, Queer Future at Historic Black Colleges and Universities
